Thermguard Cellulose Fibre Insulation
Thermguard is a loose-fill insulation (cellulose fibre) blown onto your ceiling which creates a totally seamless blanket of thermal protection. The light density of the product allows more air to be trapped in the insulation, causing a more effective barrier against heat loss or gain than conventional methods. Thermguard is an eco-friendly product made of recycled newspaper. It is sound-proof, fire-retardant, insect - and rodent repellent, cost effective and non-allergenic, making Thermguard the perfect solution for your roofing insulation, ceiling insulation and general insulation needs.
THERMGUARD INSTALLATION VIDEO
Proven Product
The manufacturing of Thermguard relies on more than 30 years of product development and industry experience. Thermguard is the original Cellulose Fibre Insulation in South Africa.
Thermal Properties
Thermguard keeps your home warm in winter and cool in summer. 91% of heat generated in the home will not escape through the roof in winter and 88% of summer heat will also be kept out.
Eco Friendly
We care about the environment. Thermguard is made from 80% recycled newsprint using a low energy process. This makes it a highly eco-friendly product.
Retardant & Resistant
Thermguard is made from recycled newsprint with harmless household additives, resulting in a fire retardant and insect- & rodent resistant product.
With the installation of modern machinery from the United States, THERMGUARD has been able to reduce the density of the product by 20%. This allows more air to be trapped between the fibres giving you, the customer, a lighter, less expensive product with superior insulation values.
Cellulose fibre is loose-fill insulation and is blown onto your ceiling. As a result it gets into all the hard to reach nooks and crannies of your roof, providing a totally seamless blanket where no heat gains and losses can occur. Any gaps in roof insulation would reduce its effectiveness, but with THERMGUARD, you will never have this problem.
Cellulose fibre is a very effective soundproofing material. THERMGUARD is four times as dense as glass fibre and therefore has excellent acoustic values. Noise pollution from traffic and airplanes will be significantly reduced in the home once THERMGUARD is installed. The layer of roof insulation will also prevent sound travelling between rooms through the roof space. When installed at 100mm, and thicker, Thermguard will have a Noise Reduction Co-efficient of .80 – .90. This means that .80 – .90 of the sound will be absorbed by the insulation.
THERMGUARD is treated with fire retardant additives and withstands the heat of a blow lamp without melting or emitting noxious fumes. Where our building insulation has been present in fires it has actually afforded protection against spread and reduced damage. Fire tested in terms of SANS 428 and classified B/B1/2
The additives in THERMGUARD, while harmless to humans, irritate insects and rodents, hence they will not live in the fibres. As a result, fitting our product is actually an effective form of pest control in your roof.
THERMGUARD is supplied in bags made from mainly recycled plastic, thus ensuring that it reaches your home in a totally dry state. These empty plastic bags are once again sent for recycling.
THERMGUARD will not cause problems for allergy sufferers.
THERMGUARD offers a lifetime guarantee.

Professional Installation
Assessment of your ceiling, safe covering of downlighters and appropriate placement of insulation are all key areas where our professionals have a wealth of expertise. Ceiling insulation is only as good as its installation because any gaps would decrease the effectiveness of the material installed. Only use the best!

Thermguard regulates temperature thanks to the increased amount of air in its composition. Air is a poor conductor of heat and an effective insulator, as long as it is not allowed to move. Due its fibrous nature, cellulose traps large volumes of air which act as a barrier to heat movement.
Warm in Winter
During the cold winter months, heat is generated in your home through for example electric and gas heaters, or a fire place. THERMGUARD retains the heat generated inside the house, thus reducing your energy costs and keeping your home warm and comfortable. Heat loss in the home can be reduced by over 90%.
Cool in Summer
In summer, however, a cooler environment is needed. The heat from the sun beats down on the roof, drastically raising the temperature in your home. By installing THERMGUARD, you will be able to prevent the heat flowing downwards into your cooler home by up to 88%. Depending on where you live, this will make your home naturally more comfortable to live in, or in very hot areas, reduce your air-conditioning bill considerably. In fact, the insulation will pay for itself within 3 years of installation.
FAQ
Yes, THERMGUARD will drastically reduce your electricity bills for heating and cooling your home. Depending on the design of your home, the insulation is estimated to pay for itself within 2-3 years.
THERMGUARD is treated with a number of fire retardent additives, so it will not burn. It is fire tested under SANS 428 and is classified B/B1/2. The additives will last the lifetime of the building.
Depending on the method of construction used, e.g. large or smaller windows, concrete roof tiles or metal roofing sheets, the average temperature difference between inside and outside the home is usually in the region of ± 6°C.
The harmless household additives ensure that THERMGUARD is insect and rodent free. We have had reports from farmers where THERMGUARD has alleviated rat infestations.
An average home takes approximately 3 hours to complete.
When fitted above the ceiling THERMGUARD fills every nook and cranny creating a totally seamless blanket, giving 100% cover. Tests prove that cellulose creates “air tightness” of a building and when installed, perform on average up to 26% more efficiently, and up to 38% in extreme climates when compared to rolls of insulation.
THERMGUARD is manufactured from recycled newsprint which is fairly absorbent. Small drip leaks will not harm the insulation or the ceiling as they will be absorbed by the insulation. When the roof space heats up again a day later or so, the moisture will evaporate out of the product. THERMGUARD is known as the “breathing insulation”.
Obviously roof leaks should be repaired. In the event of a major infusion of water, such as a burst geyser, the insulation will be damaged. This occurrence would be covered under normal household insurance and can be repaired by a THERMGUARD contractor whilst the geyser is being attended too.
No, THERMGUARD is non-allergenic and non-toxic.
Flat roofs are THERMGUARDs specialty. In fact many installers of insulation rolls pass enquiries onto us. The reason for this is that THERMGUARD can be installed in the majority of flat roofs without removing the roof sheets completely. The roof sheets can merely be partly lifted, the insulation blown in underneath and then the sheets refitted.
While THERMGUARD is being blown into the roof space a small amount of dust may come down through the trapdoor and from other sources, such as ill-fitting cornices. However, after installation the team on site will vacuum up this dust and the dust created in the roof space settles very quickly.
No, THERMGUARD contractors fit protective sleeves above downlighters isolating them from the insulation. The correct treatment of downlighters is an important part of our professional installation service.
No damage will be done to any wires found in the roof as THERMGUARD is non-corrosive. Because THERMGUARD is a loose-fill insulation, the wiring can easily be traced should maintenance be required.
Yes, THERMGUARD is 4 times as dense as fiberglass and thus absorbs sound significantly. If you live near an airport or highway for example the noise level in your home will be greatly reduced.
Cellulose Fibre will settle slightly over time. However, thickness and R Values are calculated at settled densities and thus this is not a concern.
